VISION OF FAMILY FOCUS
The vision of Family Focus Ministry Team is to promote family units, which are healthy so cio-economically, physically, and spiritually. The vision of the Family Focus Ministry Team is a holistic approach, which seeks to address the total needs of our families at Genesis and our community. Our belief is that healthy family units produce healthy churches and communities. The Family Focus Ministry Team will seek to address these needs by events such as seminars, training sessions, recreational activities, health clinics, special services or sessions, and several other means as we are lead by the Holy Spirit.

The vision of the Family Focus Ministry Team is to promote family units that are healthy so cio-economically, physically, and spiritually. The vision of the Family Ministry Team is a holistic approach that seeks to address the total needs of our families at Genesis and our community. Our belief is that healthy family units produce healthy church and communities. God desires that we renew our mind daily and that we love one another so that we can be the Christian community He desires. Scripture ref: Mark 12:30-31; Romans 12:1-2; Matt 19:4-6.
In 2003, Family Focus facilitated and/or participated with several activities that promoted the vision of the circle(s) and Genesis Baptist Church. The ministries that comprise Family Focus and some of their activities for 2003 are listed below:
Counseling: Leader: Rev. Vivian Short
As the ministry circles have continued to evolve, the Ministry of Counsel has too. This particular ministry as placed under the Family Focus Ministry, has indeed served to give support.
While counsel was given by referral and/or recommendations of Pastor, there have been several opportunities to work with those who have received “pre-marital counsel,” as well.
This area of challenge for the church is not only needed as a ministry, but will continue to grow as individuals and families are faced with difficulties and hard times. With this in mind, Rev Short is working with Rev Headen to formulate and strategize a more structured format of meeting this need. Thus recommendations are forthcoming for the new calendar year.
Employment Support: Leader:
The goal is equipping our members for today’s job market. Employment Support held a Job Information Fair in May. There was good participation. Some of the local businesses came and shared information and expertise that is so vital for those in today’s job market. Employment Support expects to expand the number of businesses that will participate with next year’s Employment Information Fair.
Family and Friends: Leader: Sis Marian Spruill
This year’s Family and Friends celebration was the biggest at Genesis. There was great participation from the church and community. Several activities were made available for the children and youth: basketball, fun house, cotton candy, snow cones – just to name a few. There were other activities: Health Fair, Business Expo, a presentation from the Genealogy Society, and live entertainment. Oh, by the way, there was plenty of good food. The Spirit was just so high as the members worked together on this event. As Family and Friends strive to help produce a Christian community, a bigger celebration will be planned for next year.
Family Health: Leader: Sis Madeline Claggion
Family Health held a Health Fair in September during Family and Friends day. Several screening were done. Family Health also provided meals for Higher Ground on every second Tuesday. This has really served as a time of reaching out, to serve, and to fellowship with those in need. Family Health also has also put together a schedule and has health care professional for virtually all Sunday services.
Marriage Ministry: Leaders: Ron & Brenda Murphy
The Marriage Ministry has really grown over the past few months. This ministry has been discussing chapters from the book, “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. The meetings have served to build stronger relationships with those who participate as well as addressing various aspects of marriage. The ministry has several sessions planned for next year as well as a marriage retreat for the upcoming year.
Laymen’s League: Leader: Bernard Fuller
The Laymen’s League holds monthly meeting on every 3rd Sunday. Each meeting is highlighted with a speaker that shares information that helps empower our men. Some of the topics that were discussed in 2003 were: “Money and Finance”, “Men’s Health”, “Retirement, Death, and Estates”, “General Dentistry”, “Buying a Car”, etc. The Laymen’s League also attended the ManPower Conference in Atlanta, GA. The men had a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship in the Lord. For 2004 the Laymen’s League plan to work more closely with Senior’s Ministry and the Youth. The ministry is also planning for a Men’s conference at Genesis next year.
Senior’s Ministry: Leader: Lossie Barnes

Our purpose is to: Travel to places of interest; provide opportunity for seniors to use their skills, talents and creative abilities; Contact seniors who are shut-in by periodic telephone calls, home visits or by sending greeting cards; Provide a hot meal to those who are home bound, involve seniors in arts and crafts, aerobic and cultural activities, Invite seniors to church for holiday celebration; preparing luncheons or a banquet (Senior Prom); Invite resource persons as guest speakers or to conduct seminars; Plan a senior retreat; Publish a quarterly newsletter, The GGG News.
Single's Ministry: Leader:
The Singles’ Ministry serves to provide wholeness to those who have never been married, the widowed, and the divorced through spiritual guidance, fellowship, and training.
The Singles’ Ministry held various activities throughout this year. Some of those activities were: a book discussion on “Single, Separated, and Life After Divorce” by Miles Monroe; a workshop entitled “Saved, Satisfied, and Single” attended Singles’ conferences that were held at Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise and Evangel Fellowship.
Women’s Ministry: Leader: First Lady Doretha Headen
God has truly worked through the Women’s Ministry this year. We thank Him for using the Women’s Ministry reach inward and outward this year. We praise and honor His name. The events that were held this year were extremely successful and many benefited from those efforts. Some of the events were the Women’s Prayer Breakfast, the Women’s Prayer Hour, the Joyce Meyer’s conference in Winston Salem, the Fruit of the Spirit workshops, and the clothes giveaway. A holiday celebration is scheduled in December. This celebration is scheduled in December. This celebration will focus on our seniors and singles.
